Snow, Glorious Snow

I realize that some people have had their fair share of snow this winter but today's snowfall was a big deal around here. We haven't had this type of wonderful snow all winter. It started out light and fluffy. I would say a good 2 to 3 inches fell during the night. Then the temperature increased and started hovering right around the freezing mark. This made the snow nice and wet, perfect for packing. We made perfect snowballs and snowmen (I refuse to be PC, they're snowMEN). I even showed the boys how to eat snow, reminding them never to eat yellow snow. Stellan took a while to get used to it. At first he thought it was slippery and he was afraid to walk. I eventually told him it wasn't and held his hand. He finally got that it wasn't much different and managed just fine.
I tried to get Jameson to make a snow angel (after this morning I felt a snow devil would be more appropriate....) but he didn't really get the idea of it. So I threw myself down in the snow and made an angel of myself; I figure an angel was quite appropriate for me :).
We went inside quite wet but not too cold. It was truly a beautiful day, mild and no wind with gorgeous, freshly fallen snow.

James took the boys out again once he came home (early, thank God for small favours). He was having a blast with the boys. I was making dinner in the kitchen when Jameson looked at me through the patio door and said, "It needs sugar". He was refering to the huge snowball that he was taking bites out of. Funny kid, such a sweet tooth!

Oh Sh*%

We finally have snow! It snowed for most of the night and it is still snowing, a beautiful, light snow, with several inches already on the ground. Needless to say, the boys are rather excited!! They asked to go out and play in the snow but I told them to play downstairs for a few minutes while I got ready to go. I went upstairs to brush my teeth and get ready. Not too long after Stellan headed upstairs. Panic set in when I noticed his pants were off and his onesies was undone. It was obvious that he did not have a diaper on. I quickly asked, "Did you poo?". "Yup!"
I quickly grabbed the wipes and a new diaper. I went to put the new diaper on but noticed that he didn't have any poo on his bum. This gave me a temporary moment of hope. I did notice that his onesie was a bit wet but there was no evidence of poo.
At this point Jameson came upstairs. I asked him, "Did Stellan poo?". With a great big smile and pride written all over his face he excitedly responded, "Yep! And it's all over the basement. I did it mommy!" Just try to imagine the huge smile plastered on his face. He was so proud of himself. It was at that point that I noticed he was wearing Stellan's pants. This was obviously a team effort.
My moment of hope had passed.
With much dread and fear I bounded down the stairs. I did a quick scan of the area at the bottom of the stairs and immediately to the left. Lots of toys but no obvious poo. I also didn't smell anything. A flicker of hope.
I rounded the corner and saw the dreaded diaper lying on the floor. I looked inside and noticed there was no poo. A good sign. Wait, was that a whiff?! Shoot.
I glanced on the floor and there was a pile of shiny, runny poo. Oh crap, literally! Oh wait a second, what are the geotrax doing in the poo? Oh, they've been taken for a joy ride through the pile of Stellan's feces. How lovely. That whiff quickly turned into an overwhelming stench.
I gently picked up the trains and gave them a quick wipe down. (In a moment of clarity I thought to bring the diaper wipes down with me.) I set them aside and quickly started gathering up the poo. Keep in mind that it was borderline diarrhea (he's been teething recently, he gets runny poo). So the gathering process was more like a smear-a-thon. I'm now seething (understatement). I assert some not so popular parenting techniques (desperate means call for desperate measures) and send them each to a different area to sit. Jameson is crying quite hysterically but Stellan is pretty oblivious. Since I'm great at multi-tasking, I manage to smear/spread/clean the pile of poo while managing to give the kids a rather loud tongue lashing. During a break in my ranting, Jameson managed to look at me with big crocodile tears in his eyes and say, "I still love you mommy". And the Oscar goes to......
We all ended up in a big cuddle on the couch where I told them both I loved them but they needed to sit quietly and just hug me and remind me that they actually are sweet children. They willingly obliged, I got my cuddle fill and then headed upstairs to put the trains in bleach.

So Organized!

I have to say, I'm proud of myself. Over the past few days I have gone through a year and a half worth of magazines and I ripped out the pages that actually contained information that I found useful (either presently or in the future). I then trimmed the pages and put them in clear plastic sheet protectors. I arranged them in a binder according to topic and now have a nice, neat, and organized article collection.
I love channelling my inner Martha Stewart. :)

Wegmans, again

James picked up the boys from Skipper Club last night so I could head over to Wegmans afterward. Saved me a ton of time. He's great!
I stopped by Whole Foods on my way; my first time there. I was very impressed with the quality of their produce and their selection. I wasn't so impressed with the prices. Granted, I'm not a granola and I don't eat many organic foods so it was more of an adventure for me. It was a bit strange to walk down the aisles and not recognize many of the labels. Oh well, good fun anyway. I did pick up a few things in the produce section, some face lotion for the kids (smells so yummy!) and some sushi for my dinner. I have to admit, the sushi was yummy yummy. I've never had it made with brown rice before; it makes a nice difference. Mmmmm.....so good!
When I got into Wegmans I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. :( Apparently it's not a good idea to go in there at 8 at night. Even though it was 2 hours before close, I still found certain areas (produce for example) rather sparse. I'm not sure where the produce goes at night (produce bed?) but I'm sure they don't want to restock if they have to take it all back into the coolers anyway. But still, come on. I think there were literally 10 bananas to choose from, none of them forming an actual bunch of bananas. Not impressed. I still managed to get everything I needed but it definitely put a damper on my opinion about the wonderful grocery store.
I think I might send them an e-mail and voice my opinion. I have to do that to Carter's to complain about Jameson's shoes that have fallen apart too early. I did e-mail the Body Shop last week to complain about spelling mistakes on their company web page. Hmmm....come to think of it, maybe I need a new hobby so I can leave these companies alone. :)

Story Time

We headed out the library this morning for story time with Mr. Matt. The boys were quite excited and I was glad to be getting out of the house. We got there nice and early so the boys could sit on the letter mats of their choice. There wasn't a "J" mat so Jameson had to settle for a "P" mat. No big deal. The room quickly filled with kids between the ages of 2 and 5. Pandemonium waiting to happen! He's good and kept things under control.
Mr. Matt is great and does a wonderful job entertaining the kids. He started out by saying he would be reading books about "safety" today. I was sitting off to the side a bit and I heard, "Satan". Whew, glad I was the one that was wrong. What kind of library is this?!?!
Shortly after the stories began a young boy and his mom came in a bit late. They sat directly behind Jameson. Not long after that the boy started coughing....and coughing and coughing. You get the picture. It was a gross phlegmy cough. Yuck. Anyway, the grossest part was that he didn't cover his mouth. His mother was still sitting with him and she didn't tell him to cover his mouth!!!! Gross! His plegmy cough germs ended up in Jameson's air space. I'm so grossed out! I'll be waiting for him to get sick now. :( How is this kid supposed to learn manners if his mother doesn't teach him. So unacceptable! (I know I'm not perfect and neither are my kids but if they are coughing and I'm sitting there with them, I definitely encourage them to cover their mouths. It's pretty simple really.)
So, would it be rude for me to carry a can of Lysol spray and give a few spritzes next time that happens?
